What is Eid Al-Fitr?

This is one of the most important holidays for Muslims, as it marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which is the 9th month of the lunar calendar. During this holy month, Muslims must fast. Once the month of fasting is over, it is Eid, a time of celebration and gratitude to Allah.

Date of Aid 2024?

According to observers, Eid is expected to fall on April 9, 2024, but this date may vary by a few days depending on the moon. Indeed, the new moon marks the beginning of each new lunar month.  The date may also vary by region as it depends on local moon sighting. Confirmation of dates will be done by the Lunar Visibility Committee consisting of experts and religious leaders.

What do we do on the day of Aid El Fitr?

It is recommended to wear a nice piece of clothing on the day of Eid, which is why we often offer Qamis and abayas especially for this celebration.

  • The day of Eid starts in the morning with the Eid prayer at the mosque.
  • Then families gather for lunch to break the Ramadan fast.
  • Then Muslims should give alms to those in need.
  • Finally, it is also an opportunity to give each other gifts and share meals.

As for the month of fasting, it will take place from March 11 to April 8, 2024.

Why is Ramadan coming earlier and earlier?

Since the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar calendar, there is a gap with the solar calendar. Indeed, unlike the solar calendar which is composed of 365 days, the lunar calendar is composed of 354 or 355 days, which shifts Ramadan by about 10 days each year.
